All a kitten wants is a home, some food and a person to hold her while she purrs slowly. Cats are fascinating, they are silly, cute, very clean and very independent.

A cat is a very curious animal that will make you smile every day.

Adopt a cat today! Don’t buy cats unless you want to exhibit them in feline shows. If you’re just looking for a pet companion, a cat is the right animal for you. And if you don’t have time to train her, just adopt an adult cat. A grown up feline is already trained to listen to people, to use the litter box and eats solid dry food.

The English Bulldog is in danger!

I love dogs. Especially English Bulldogs. But, as far as I’ve read, these dogs are in danger! Due to excessive breeding, the English Bulldog is now a dog who cannot reproduce itself without a doctor’s help.

Last year the BBC refused to broadcast Crufts Kennel Club Dog Show, the biggest show in Europe due to the fact that the Kennel Club from England refused to admit that dog breeds are in danger! Only after the dog show, the English Kennel Club announced some changes in some dog breeds standards.

Shocking: Pitbull attacks a kid!

I don’t know what those people were thinking when they let that poor cute little girl play with that ferocious pitbull! Everybody know that pitbulls are very dangerous and can rip a man’s arm in an instant!

Some people should not have dogs, that’s for sure! Poor girl…

For those of you who, for some reason, can’t see the video above, let me straight things out: this is an example of how media exaggerate over stuff regarding aggressive dogs. Indeed, there are aggressive pitbulls, or Amstaff or Bulldogs(!), Rottweilers, Dobermans or especially Chihuahua’s, but that doesn’t mean that all dogs are aggressive. Moreover, if you raise a dog to be bad and aggressive, then I would not guarantee that a bad dog wouldn’t bite your ass when you’ll piss him off.
So, the moral part of this post: get your dog a decent and proper training. And if you want an aggressive dog, think again!

Shagged by a Kakapo Parrot!

This is quite old, I know, but I just found out about it. So, the story is like this:
Zoologist Mark Carwardine along side Stephen Fry were making a documentary about animals on the edge of extinction. If you don’t already know, in New Zealand there’s this parrot, the largest of all but who can’t fly, who is so rare that few people really got to see one.
Because this parrot cannot fly, he adopts a simple and not always effective strategy: he stays very still! Before mankind discovered many wild islands, especially in the New Zealand area, these parrots were happy with their life. When humans got to know about Kakapo Parrots and brought felines with them, well, the poor birds were facing a great danger: cats!

As far as I’ve read about these birds, there are plans about evacuating an island for Kakapo Parrots where cats and other predators don’t have access to, in order to prevent the extinction of this wonderful bird.
Well, as I was saying in the beginning, Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine were making a BBC documentary when, all of a sudden, this Kakapo bird comes and starts shagging the photographers head. It’s hilarious!

World Animal Day – October 4th

Hey there! If you thought I forgot about this blog, well, I haven’t. It’s just that animals keep me pretty busy and the time is limited, as you most probably know.

It’s October again and what do we celebrate in October? You got it, World Animal Day!

On October 4th all the animals in the world are cherrished and blessed for being part of our lives.

If in 2008 people adopted pets from shelters and enjoyed the wildlife among wild animals (exotic safari trips or zoos), this year there were lots of exhibitions, concerts, animals rescue and many more, all dedicated to animals. A baby moose saved by an Alaska family!

Randy Richards and his family decided to save the calf who got lost from it’s mother. Randy’s dogs chased the calf is his yard where the baby moose was seen and saved by its family. He still had the umbilical cord meaning that he was born a few hours/days before getting lost from mama moose.

The calf caused some commotion during the rainy night from Wednesday to Thursday, running around the yard and crying for its mother. But morning arrived and Mama Moose still was nowhere to be seen.

So Richards started making calls.

Nick Cassara, a fish and game technician Richards spoke to that morning, was making calls too. He said the Milwaukee County Zoo had applied to the state for two moose. The application wasn’t yet approved but the Alaska Zoo, where a lot of moose orphans end up, agreed to take care of the calf until it was.

Now the calf is going to live at Alaska Zoo.

Thank God there are still nice people out there!

Recognize the Lion Statue?

Hy guys. It’s been a while since my last post. Yeah, I know I’ve been lazy lately. My computer is even lazier! Must be the heat.

Anyhow, I got an email from a reader who’s trying to find the location of a photo. I’ll just paste the content of the email here. Maybe somebody will recognize the place.

I was wondering if you could post the attached photo on your website, to see if anyone can identify the location where it was taken?

It is of my Grandfather who was a Lancashire Fusilier (2nd Bn.) with British 8th Army. He was killed during the fighting north of Rome, on 21st June 1944, and is buried in the Orvieto War Cemetery.

Looking at his clothing, and historical records for the Allied Force’s positions, I think will have been taken in May or June of 1944, meaning it was probably only a few weeks before he was killed. I think the location will be somewhere between Cassino, and Orvieto, but most probably Rome, which the Allies entered on 4th June 1944.

After extensive internet searches, I have been unable to find any similar statues, and my requests to Italian Tourist Information websites have not resulted in any success.

During a recent visit to Rome, someone at an information desk at Ciampino Airport thought it may be at the Spanish Steps, but I have been unable to confirm this via the internet.

I would be very grateful of any information that could help me pinpoint the location, as I am going to Rome on a holiday soon, and I was hoping to take my Father to the location while we are there.

People from Zimbabwe are eating elephants to stay alive!

It’s a sad, sad story! People of Zimbabwe are starving. They have no food: no meat, no cereals, no nothing. About 90% of the country’s population is unemployed.

Farmers have been ordered to leave their farms and leave the country. Although the majority of food came from those farms, the president has other plans with the country. People are starving. Those who survive the hunger, die from diseases like malaria and Aids.

Because there is no food, people of Zimbabwe have started to hunt down animals from national parks. Giraffes, zebras, anthilopes, even elephants are killed for their meat. Buffalos are the main target but when the hunger is too strong, elephant meat will make the hunger go away.

Give the cat for the baby?

One of my old friends from kindergarten is pregnant with her first baby. She and her husband are very happy and can’t wait for the day the baby will come. She’s almost 8 months now.

To cut the story short. Her mother in law told her to get rid of her 10 years old cat, a lovely tom cat, because the new born baby will have trouble in living in the same house with an animal.

As far as I know, yes, there are some diseases a baby can get from a cat but an animal is not dangerous if you clean it and watch over them. Her doctor told her to give the cat to her mother for the first 3 months after the baby is born, just to be sure and make her mother in law feel secure.

My friend was very sad because she’s very attached to her tom cat. And this morning she mailed me the link to a cuteoverload.com photo saying, and I quote her :

If that baby is happy with that gorgeous cat, my baby will be happy too! I can’t wait to see my cat trying to imitate my baby!”

If there are mothers who had the same issue, I’m curious what did you do? Did you give away your pet when the baby was born?
