How to teach your Yorkie to sit

Ingredients: cheese, patience and a dog willing to learn new things.
Yorkies are just big dogs in a small body so please be patient. Because they have Terrier genes, Yorkies might be stubborn and that’s why the dog must know who the master really is.
Watch the video for a complete lesson of how to train your Yorkie to sit.

Tallest horse in the World

This is Poe (maybe the owner is an Edgar Allan Poe fan) and he is the World’s Tallest Horse.

His owner, Shereen Thompson, from Tupperville – Canada, says that Poe is 20.2 hands tall at the shoulder and 10 feet tall with his head upright, and weighs 3,000 pounds.

Amazing horse, isn’t it?

Amazing white tigers pictures!

We already talked about White tigers and about the genetic malformations they pass from one generation to another.

This time I’m going to present you some fabulous pictures of rare white tigers. The photographs were taken by Birte Person in Singapore Zoo where 6 rare white tigers live in harmony.

After dinner, the tigers were playing in the water giving Birte Person the time to take these amazing shots.

As well as the White Lion is part of the Leo family (Panthera Leo Krugeri), the White Tiger belongs to the Bengal tigers family, Panthera tigris.

China: Snake with foot!

A chinese woman, Dean Qiongxiu found the weird reptile while it was clinging on the wall of her … bedroom!

“I woke up and heard a strange scratching sound. I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall using his claw,” said Mrs Duan of Suining, southwest China.

Unfortunately, biologist who would have found this snake fascinating can only take pictures of the reptile because the lady killed it with a shoe.

The snake with a foot was 16 inches long and the thickness of a little finger – is now being studied at the Life Sciences Department at China’s West Normal University in Nanchang.

Ferret put on diet!

You thought pets don’t actually have problems with their weight? Think again!

Meet Mr. Bumble, a ferret who had to be put on a crash diet of fruits and vegetables after everyone noticed that he’s too fat. He weighed 7 kg!!

Mr. Bumble was rehomed at a zoo because his owners obviously could not take propper care of him. So now he’s eating fruits and veggies and he’s taken on daily walks in order to loose those pounds and be a healthy ferret again.

World Animal Day – October 4th

world-animal-dayHey there! If you thought I forgot about this blog, well, I haven’t. It’s just that animals keep me pretty busy and the time is limited, as you most probably know.

It’s October again and what do we celebrate in October? You got it, World Animal Day!

On October 4th all the animals in the world are cherrished and blessed for being part of our lives.

If in 2008 people adopted pets from shelters and enjoyed the wildlife among wild animals (exotic safari trips or zoos), this year there were lots of exhibitions, concerts, animals rescue and many more, all dedicated to animals. Check out the WorldAnimalDay.org for the complete list of events which took place on October 4th.

Sybil, Downing Street Cat has died

She followed the steps of Humphrey, the cat that served Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair. Her name was Sybil and she was Chancellor Alistair Darling’s cat.

She was named after Basil Fawlty’s wife in the television show Fawlty Towers.

The black and white cat was a great mouser, say sources for Telegraph and she passed away after an illness.

Also according to the same article from Telegraph, rumors say prime minister Gordon Brown wasn’t too fond of the cat:

Amid rumours that Gordon Brown disliked the cat, his official spokesman said at the time: “The Prime Minister and [his wife] Sarah do not have a problem with it.”

Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm

Don’t remember if I told you or not, but I grew up in the country, with lots of animals in the back yard. My grandparents had all sorts of animals: pigs, cows, goose, ducks, hens and roosters (one small rooster had a thing for me, he hated my guts!), sheep and little lambs I used to feed with the bottle whenever their mommy would abandon them.

I loved to spend my summer holidays over there.

My neighbour is looking for advices about raising a sheep farm. Some people have a flick for cats, some have a flick for sheeps.

So she found Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm. Nice site. Very nice actually! I believe she’s on that site as I write these lines and as you read them. She’s determined in raising a sheep farm. Good luck to her with it!

I fell in love with this little fellow.

Am absolutely crazy about it! I wish my hubby would like all animals like I do and let me have one little lamb in our back yard.

A baby moose saved by an Alaska family!

Randy Richards and his family decided to save the calf who got lost from it’s mother. Randy’s dogs chased the calf is his yard where the baby moose was seen and saved by its family. He still had the umbilical cord meaning that he was born a few hours/days before getting lost from mama moose.

The calf caused some commotion during the rainy night from Wednesday to Thursday, running around the yard and crying for its mother. But morning arrived and Mama Moose still was nowhere to be seen.

So Richards started making calls.

Nick Cassara, a fish and game technician Richards spoke to that morning, was making calls too. He said the Milwaukee County Zoo had applied to the state for two moose. The application wasn’t yet approved but the Alaska Zoo, where a lot of moose orphans end up, agreed to take care of the calf until it was.

Now the calf is going to live at Alaska Zoo. moose-calf2

Thank God there are still nice people out there! :)
