Give the cat for the baby?
One of my old friends from kindergarten is pregnant with her first baby. She and her husband are very happy and can’t wait for the day the baby will come. She’s almost 8 months now.
To cut the story short. Her mother in law told her to get rid of her 10 years old cat, a lovely tom cat, because the new born baby will have trouble in living in the same house with an animal.
As far as I know, yes, there are some diseases a baby can get from a cat but an animal is not dangerous if you clean it and watch over them. Her doctor told her to give the cat to her mother for the first 3 months after the baby is born, just to be sure and make her mother in law feel secure.
My friend was very sad because she’s very attached to her tom cat. And this morning she mailed me the link to a cuteoverload.com photo saying, and I quote her :
If that baby is happy with that gorgeous cat, my baby will be happy too! I can’t wait to see my cat trying to imitate my baby!”
If there are mothers who had the same issue, I’m curious what did you do? Did you give away your pet when the baby was born?
Btw, this is the picture:

I kept both of my cats when my kids were born. One of them was very protective and slept in the cradle with my daughter. He would have a fit if anyone got near her and she was sleeping, lol. He would also come jump on me in the middle of the night about three seconds before my daughter really started crying. Both of my kids loved their cat brothers and we wouldnt have had it any other way. My kids are now 11 and 13, the original kitties have passed on, so we now have two others.
